198,000 people visited Shaoshan, the hometown of Chairman Mao, during the three-day Tomb-sweeping Day Holiday in 2011, an increase of 17.4% from the previous year, with gate receipts reaching 540,700 yuan.
More than 300 retired veteran cadres from Shanxi came to Shaoshan and held activities themed as “recalling revolutionaries” on April 3.They paid their respects by placing flowers at the bronze statue of Chairman Mao at Mao Zedong Square. In addition, the visitors held a singing competition in which the retired veteran cadres sang classic revolutionary songs such as “The East is Red” and “Liuyang River”.
Many visitors continued to pay tribute to Chairman Mao with flowers at Mao Zedong Square on April 5. Young students and teachers in neat school uniforms visited scenic spots, such as the former residence and the relic museum of Chairman Mao, with great admiration and reverence.
From January to March this year, 1.4102 travelers have visited Shaoshan, a year-on-year increase of 5 percent, bringing travel income up to 260 million yuan.
