2015 Huan Jishou International Drum Cultural Festival to Open

Huan Jishou International Drum Cultural Festival 2015 will take place in Jishou City of Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture from September 18 to 20.

Themed “Vitalize the World with Drum Dance”, the festival aims to foster a world-famous festive brand and advance integrated development of culture and travel in western Hunan by means of a government-led, market-oriented, society-supported and public-participated development mode.

This year marks the 58th anniversary of the founding of Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture on September 20. On the special occasion, the three-day drum festival, which is even bigger than the previous two events will invite 300 participants of 16 drum teams from home and abroad, including Britain, Burundi, Australia, Colombia and Iran.

Nine themed activities will be held to celebrate the festival, including the opening ceremony and international drum culture exchange attended by drum teams from five continents, a nationwide “China Miao Minority Drum Dance Contest”, a special art performance, a summit on protecting intangible cultural heritage and developing rural travel of Xiangxi, an international food expo, and investment initiative presentations by entrepreneurs from Hong Kong and Shenzhen in Jishou.

The 2015 Jishou Drum Cultural Festival kicks off at the People’s Square of Jishou City on Sept. 19. Seventeen drum teams from home and abroad attended the festival to promote cultural exchange via drum performances.
