4 Villages Included in the First Batch of China’s Traditional Villages

On Feb. 17, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Finance jointly issued the list of the first batch of China’s traditional villages. There are 646 villages across the country considered into the list including four villages in Yongzhou City, Hunan Province, which are Ganyantou village in Fujiaqiao Town of Lingling District, Shanggantang village in Xiacengpu Town of Jiangyong County, Longxi village in Panshi Town of Qiyang County and Tantian village in Lijiaping Township of Shuangpai County.

In August, 2012, according to the “Notice of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development on Printing and Issuing the Index System (trial implementation) of Traditional Villages Evaluation and Identification”, Yongzhou selected four eligible villages based on preliminary evaluation and three standards in the index system, which are traditional architecture, location and pattern and intangible cultural heritage in the village. Then the applications were submitted to the State Expert Committee of Traditional Villages Protection and Development for approval. The list has been released to the public in January this year.
