China’s first college of Hunan embroidery, also the protection base of Hunan embroidery, was established as a subordinate college of Hunan Arts and Crafts Vocational College on the morning of June 23, making it Hunan’s only institution of higher learning appointed as a state-level protection base for intangible cultural heritage.College of Hunan Embroidery is expected to recruit about 1,500 full-time students and provide various training for over 3,000 people every year.
To celebrate the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the inauguration of College of Hunan Embroidery, Liu Aiyun, the only representative inheritor of state-level intangible cultural heritage and national master of arts and crafts, together with his three generations of followers finished an embroidered CPC flag on the same day.
The flag, 388 centimeters long and 192 centimeters wide, is embroidered in traditional plain stitches and takes over a month of arduous work. The flag is exquisite and smooth, with its embroidered golden axe and sickle shiny and glossy in the red background, representing a beautiful life featured by unity of workers and peasants, prosperous nation and rich people.
