Great development of Hunan tourism in past five years

Recently, Yang Guangrong(head of Hunan Provincial Tourism Bureau) reported the development of the province’s travel industry over the period of the Eleventh Five-Year Plan (2006-2010) at a press briefing held by the Press Office of the Hunan Provincial People’s Government.

   Hunan travel has made great development during the past five years. In 2009, the travel revenue is 109.947 billion yuan in total, making the travel industry the seventh one to earn an output value of over a hundred billion yuan and realizing the main goal formulated in the Eleventh Five-Year Plan one year ahead of schedule. And it is estimated that the province has received a total of 196 million visitors in 2010, an increase of 21.94% compared to the same period of the previous year. The travel revenue of 2010 achieved 138 billion yuan, rising by 25.52% over the same period of last year and tripling that of 2005. The number exceeded the goal by 28 billion yuan, accounting for over a quarter of the goal.

   According to the data analysis, the total revenue of Hunan travel in 2010 is expected to be the top ten in China. According to a survey in 2010, the travel industry has been making large contribution to the society in recent years, creating more than 3.2 million employment opportunities and benefiting 1 million farmers engaged directly or indirectly in rural travel.
