On Oct. 29th,The fourth session of China’s most desirable places has been held in Beijing, Sponsored by China TV Association of travel and undertaken by BTV, the laurel has been granted to 20 scenic spots including Hunan Hongjiang Ancient Commercial City,Shanxi Pingyao Ancient city, and Shandong Mount Tai Scenic spot.
Located in the convergence of Yuan River and Wu River, It originated from the Spring and Autumn periods, formed in the flourishing Tang Period and then thrived in Ming and Qing Dynasty. It is renowned for purchasing tung oil(China wood oil), wood,white wax,opium. As a material distribution center of five provinces including Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangxi, Hunan and economic, cultural, religious centers in southern part of western Hunan, it has been crowned as “Xiangxi(Western Hunan) Pearl”, “Small Nanjing”, and “Southwest Metropolitan”. Today, according to experts, The Ming and Qing ancient buildings are still well-preserved in the ancient commercial city, with a total of 380 several buildings covering an area of about 200,000 square meters,such as the sub-cellar houses, temples, Escort agencies(Chinese security company), banks, traders, importers, workshops, shops, inns, brothels, newspapers, tobacco shops.
