The Hunan “Eight ‘Red’ (Revolutionary) Scenic Spots” selection opening ceremony was held in Changsha on August 13, 2018. The event aimed to further build quality Hunan ‘red travel’ routes. It was hosted by the Hunan Tourism Development Commission and Hunan Daily Group, undertaken by the Voice of China Online (VOC), and supported by city (prefecture) travel departments. It lasts from August 13 to December 18.
Hunan has more than 300 red tourist spots, including: national red tourist attractions [28]; provincial key red tourist areas [72]; national A-level tourist attractions [42]; national 5A-level tourist scenic spots [3]; national 4A-level ones [13], and national 3A-level ones [21]. There are also 25 national patriotic education demonstration bases.
The organizing committee said that the event will be initially evaluated according to five aspects such as scenic level, visitor reception, comprehensive service, and comprehensive management. The spots will be elected via online voting and on-site presentation.
