A grand Miao festival was marked on May 25 at Shanjiang Town, west Hunan’s Fenghuang County. About ten thousand Miao people in beautiful ethnic costumes celebrated the traditional holiday by singing folk songs and performing Miao dances. The festival falls on the eighth day of the fourth month in the Chinese lunar calendar, and it’s a time for the Miao people to pay homage to their ancestors and heroes, and to have a get-together. It was included in the third batch of national intangible cultural heritage in 2011.
On May 25, Miao girls performed folk dance during the “Girls’ Day”. 14 ethnic minority township teams of Suining County made a performance tour along the trunk road, bringing different experiences for visitors. The festival falls on the eighth day of the fourth month in the Chinese lunar calendar.
