The 2018 New Year holiday runs from December 30, 2017 to January 1, 2018. Tolls will not be suspended during the period.
The Hunan Expressway Monitoring Center anticipates that 5.6 million trips for the period, a year-on-year increase of 17%.
More traffic will be leaving Changsha than normal for weekends during the period 16:00-21:00 on December 29. Rush hour will last from 9:00 to 11:00 and 16:00 to 19:00 on December 30 and 31. The travel peak is expected from 15:00 to 20:00 on January 1, 2018.
The following toll stations anticipate traffic congestion during the three-day holiday: Yueyang, West Pingjiang, Yuhua, Lijiatang toll stations on the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macau Expressway; North Xiangtan toll station on the Shanghai-Kunming Expressway; West Changsha, Chaoyang, Quanjiaohe toll stations on the Changsha-Zhangjiajie Expressway; Xueshi toll station on the Changsha-Xiangtan West Expressway; Changsha and Yong’an toll stations on the Changsha-Liuyang Expressway; West Xiangtan toll station on the Yueyang-Linwu Expressway.
The Hunan Highway Construction and Development Corporation said that four expressways would open to traffic ahead of the New Year holiday. They are Zhangjiajie-Sangzhi, Wugang-Jingzhou, Yiyang-Loudi, and Yanling-Rucheng (the remaining section) expressways. Drivers should plan a route accordingly.
