The world’s longest and highest glass bridge that joins summits of two mountains is set to start construction in 2013 at Zhangjiajie Great Canyon.
The project feasibility has got nod from domestic and international experts at Wuhan-based China Railway Major Bridge Reconnaissance & Design Institute CO., Ltd. (BRDI). Experts resolved to build up world’s first cable-stayed glass bridge over mountains with a world’s highest bungee jump platform at the center. It’s said that new synthetic material will be first utilized in a bridge project.
The bridge will be located on mountain cliffs at both sides of the canyon between Lishuya District and Wuwangpo District. The bridge is about 3.2 meters’ wide and 330 meters’ long with a relative height of 400 meters between the bridge arch and valley floor. Without normal support of steel and concrete piers, it features its complete glass structure with transparent bridge pavement.
